Last week I had my windscreen replaced and the car has sat on the drive since. I gave the inside a good clean today and noticed exposed wires going into the rain sensor cover...I can’t say I’ve noticed these before. It definitely looks like a cover has not been put back (maybe broken on removal). Does anyone know the part number so I can source a replacement? It’s a minor thing but it won’t do my OCD any favours. I’d upload a pic if I knew how to!

Not quite. The split cover 18 & 19 are there, along with part 22. But there is a short length of wiring harness visible between them
(Maybe 2.5”)...is that normal? Like I said, I’ve never really taken notice before.

Not normally. The covers snap together hiding the wires that come from the sensor pad unit to the interior roof space. You should not see any wiring as such unless it has not been tucked back in where it should go.

That’s strange then as the schematic doesn’t show any other covers/trunking in that assembly. Should the black (split) cover mate to the interior roof space part?

It doesn't mate to the roof space but just closes around the roof guide that you can see in the photo below. The split covers actually grip the sensor bracket and snap together. It's a tight enough fit not to be loose or make a rattling noise.

    With cover on...

    Hope this helps?

Great pics, thanks. That is how I remember mine looking, which is why I thought a cover was missing. The new windscreen has a black area for the rain sensor to locate which is obviously lower down than the original, hence the cover is further away, and doesn’t quite enclose around the roof guide leaving some wiring exposed. I think I’ll wrap the wiring so it looks a bit less obvious. Thanks for your help clearing that up 👍🏻

Technically what you're saying is that the windscreen they fitted is not the EXACT version for your model. I have had 3 windscreen changes in the 9 years I've owned my B6 and all of the replacements have a) had the correct green 'anti glare' tinting and b) had the marked sensor area in the right place to allow the split covers to line up over the roof aperture perfectly whilst gripping the sensor pad surround firmly.

That’s what it appears to be. To be fair I doubt I’ll worry about it after a while...not like my next problem which is the headlining starting to come away around the interior lighting trim due to the scorching heat. Definitely needs glueing back down before it gets worse!! These passats present one issue after another! :-)

Got that on a 23 year old Fiesta at the moment. Easier to take the whole headliner mould out on older cars then stick it down properly off car. Still not looking forward to doing that.
