    Hi All,

    I have a Audi B7 (2006 1.9 tdi 115bhp) on 190k miles.

Recently it has developed the following issue:

It will start first time when cold (always), however once you go for a run, turn the car off it will then either start again first time or go through a cycle of sounding like it's just about to kick into life (cranks) before it dies. It will then take 4-5 times before it actually runs.

The glow plug comes on and goes off quickly (when it cranks normally, and when it's trying to).

Initially I thought this may be the ECU relay *but perhaps not with above symptoms*? or the sign of a crankshaft sensor about to die?

Also no codes flagging, we did take it to a mechanic - who said he would have betted on it being something to do with the compression but it requires seals inside the engine to be replaced e.t.c and he wouldn't do it if it was his (could be a "not interested in fixing this, go away type message").

    Thoughts?

next time it does it unplug the coolant sensor see if its starts

when was the Cam belt last changed?

could also be a week starter motor

Thanks will give that a go, if my relay replacement doesnt work

Cambelt a year ago, I would be surprised if it was the starter as it goes first time when cold and is pretty 'forceful'.

Also I pulled out the relay's under the ECU and a couple were lightly scorched, so I have a couple on order and until those arrived I sanded back the scorched terminals.

It now starts first time (as it did) but when warm, it will start second time if it doesn't the first time. So betting on the relays at the moment.

So an update to close this off,

Took to another mechanic and they said it was a weak starter. So got that changed out and the coolant sensor whilst he was working on the car.

Now all good, and not too bad to replace (about £140 after old part returned, for the same Bosch unit @ GSF) plus an hours labour.
