    Hi All,

Different car different fault, (this is my sister in law's car, she ran it with NO oil pressure then moaned it sounds like a diesel!!)

Another engine was found ARY code, engine was seen running in person before removed from low mileage car.

Removed original engine (This engine did run although like a diesel), swapped ancillary stuff over, including original wiring.

Replacement engine installed, all wiring connected and fluids as required.

Engine turns over but no spark!! used Vagcom it shows fault code
    17072 P0688 001672 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit

After hunting around the forum I have replaced relay 100 and 428 in the engine bay but still no start.

    What does J271 refer to?

    Can anyone help please?

Seems very strange that the fault was not present before the engine swap, or has moving the wiring harness induced the fault? (The engine wiring harness was disconnected from the ECU and the large connector behind the battery and the wiring removed with the original engine, wiring swapped over and reinstalled.

Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks any questions please ask

J271 is the relay switched by the control unit. Those bits seem to be supplied by fuse 37 in the driver dash set. Is it there and good?

Do you know the model year of donor and recipient car? There might be a difference to track down, but if you stripped engine back to simple mechanics before putting target car looms, etc back on it then probably not.

Both cars are same year 2000 same engine code ARY 180BHP

Fuse 37 is good, I have tested and also replaced it with a new fuse same fault present 17072 P0688 001672 - ECM Power Relay Load Circuit: (J271): Open Circuit
