Hi all, no idea how this forum works so hopefully I’m in the right place.

My A6 C6 3.0tdi has been having a turbo fault for ages now! Have tried everything I can think of to solve the problem.

Narrowed down to only happening when hot (as in engine bay temperature). Car goes into limp mode when town driving or when stopping for even a short amount of time, this allows heat to build up in the engine bay and then limp mode happens.

Codes are P3348 - boost control circuit electrical malfunction & P0046 generic EOBD code.

changed turbo & actuator (calibrated properly) didn’t work, then tried all solenoids and sensors I could find, still no luck. Have just tried a turbo/actuator off a working car, still no joy!

I’m at a complete loss, any help would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks

Just in hope that anyone else with this issue will find the post on Google - P3348 SOLVED!

Ok so it’s been over a year on and off trying to trace this problem, here are my results.

Refurbished turbo with new (Non genuine) actuator = P3348 fault code with limp mode (MIL & coil light)

Actuator replaced (still non genuine) = P3348 code but no symptoms other than MIL occasionally on. I assume the non genuine circuit board upset the ECU.

Fitted a used (but supposedly working) turbo and actuator from a car on 90k miles = Original fault symptoms returned P3348, MIL, flashing glow plug light, limp mode. (Turns out the actuator was dead on that too as I’ll explain shortly)

In the meantime I tried replacing wiring, connectors, solenoids, vacuum pipes all to no avail.

FINALLY - The resolution: As I’m sure you’ll have read - Actuator is a sealed unit, adapted in place with a special tool etc. As I had reached breaking point on this one I decided to ignore this. I took the genuine actuators outer casing (This houses the circuit board) from the used turbo and mated it with the non genuine half of the actuator with the working motor, I then bolted this onto the turbo roughly where the old one was fitted. Job done, no fault codes, actuator works well, all data within parameters. I assume no calibration was required as the section with the circuit board (outer casing) Was original so no reason for the ecu to suspect anything. The other half was new but is essentially just a motor that works when the circuit board tells it to. I may have got a bit lucky positioning it back on the turbo but there’s only so many places you can mount it so eventually trial and error will have you up and running.

To summarise, if you have P3348 fault code - Buy a cheap actuator (genuine or not, up to you) take the outer casing off your current actuator and fit it to the new actuator. Unbolt the dead actuator from the turbo and replace it with your new Frankenstein actuator and job done!

Alternatively buy a refurbished turbo and fit your Genuine actuator outer casing to it when it inevitably throws fault codes because Audi suck!

    GOOD LUCK!
