    Afternoon all,

Just doing maintenence on my audi and want to go a coolant change. Can somebody point me in the right direction on how to do it

Had a look though the Internet and it seems you either remove bottom rad pipe or use drain plug. Do you have to remove the undertray to do either method? Send like is should be easier to do

Anybody know where th drain plug is on this model?

    Kind regards
    James

Good question, I'm actually trying to find that one out. Where can I find this information?

Done 60k and had it five years since belt changed.

For Golf 1.6tdi cayc Haynes mentions a drain outlet fitted to the coolant bottom hose end fitting, but it also mentions the possibility of not having one.
On Golf's which I have worked on I have not found one to be present. Generally on vehicles they can be found on lower portions of the radiator ends, sometimes accessible from cut outs in the lower front trim, otherwise facing the engine.

If not present the Haynes procedure is to remover expansion tank cap, remove lower radiator hose, both hoses from electric coolant circulation pump and one of the coolant hoses from the oil cooler.

If you are looking to do a complete drain I'd also say to remove the lower of the egr cooler hoses. Also on the Golf 1.6tdi the "the bottom radiator hose" is not exactly at the bottom. It is about 1/4 if not a 1/3 way up the side, so not ideal for complete draining either.

Would you use either of these two oils for 1.6tdi?
    Audi/VW Quantum LONGLIFE 3 Oil – 5w/30 – 5 Litres – Rapid Auto Care

Millers Trident Longlife 5w30 Engine Oil (5L)

I don't usually use my ramps, either axle stands or I have some bricks that I can drive onto safely. The more you lift the vehicle the more comfortable it'll be to get it done.

Don't want to write the millers off as I have no experience of them, I use the quantum longlife and I can report no egr or dpf problems after 180k miles/8 year old car, mostly short runs and only using supermarket fuel. I actually get it from Rapid autocare
