Also double check if m16 is the right bit to use, iirc on mine they are M14 but m14 doesn't fit at first and that's when you have to start cleaning the bolt out. Sorry if it is m16, but that's how I remember them.

Edit:sorry I was thinking of the front. Had a look at rears and they different altogether

The stuby design with a hole in the end tried to kill me by shearing right at the end of the 180 turn so I bought a genuine one, yes XZN18

New socket arrived - however it was the same as the halfords version in appearance ( not sure about material strength however) . To support the breaker bar and keep it tight to the bearing to reduce slippage - I routed nylon rope through the bearing bolt eyes and the the bar to make it as secure as possible while trying to break the torque ( used a long steel pole for extra leverage as well) - success - I now have got both bolt & bearing removed. New sensor & bearing ordered. Just need to get the old sensor out ( due to hex hole being damaged - battered a 9MM socket over the retaining screw and managed to get it out - need screws ordered in case not one with the new sensor). Progress is slow but I will be an expert with all the right tools if any other corner goes bad .

I am going to ask a dumb question - is it just a case of fitting new sensor & bearing - ie There is no fancy coding stuff to do with the ECU'S etc - I have VCDS logs from original parts + VCDS software - but not sure how to go about using the software if anything needs changed/updated .

Yeah, you can fit a new abs sensor and a hub bearing abs ring assembly without having to use VCDS or anything after.

New sensor and wheel bearing arrived from ******* ( much cheaper than euro or carpart4less - although it was about 7 days for them to arrive from ordering - saved ~£50 ) - both fitted and now have a working ABS sensor & Ring - This should now be enough to get it passed its MOT - just need to worry about the EGR fault which gets logged intermittently.

Car passed its MOT - no problems with emissions - just need to hope EGR fixes itself through running - else looking at expensive repair
