@Crasher did suggest this a few days ago and if it would work would solve the possible issue in a flash... I know other site do "premium" membership, I used to pay to Briskoda who offer a couple of options for paying members... (see below)

Would that be of interest? I would have to look at a software upgrade to allow some changes, even move from vBulletin if interest was big enough... I have created a poll for this option..

Slightly tongue in cheek but consistent with above - if you put those really annoying ads back on to get revenue from those who just pop in with a single query then I'd soon be paying the tenner to get rid of them .

Could you set something up with someone like Darkside, who I see as a good supplier of goods related to many of the queries here? Rebrand as "Darkside Forums", with their agreement of course.

If a paid option generated enough revenue then that could be an option we could look at... The adverts are still there were I want them, the annoying one is the little symbols that appear next to words... but not a bad suggestion..

Stuart, I can’t see why that would be a problem. Adverts don’t really affect me though as I use tapertalk to view the site from my phone so don’t see the adverts. That wasn’t intentional it just gives a much easier interface for viewing. On a phone. The big thing people must remember is a few pounds a year is a very small price to pay for free advice from expert VAG Indie’s such as crasher and AndyHud and I am sure there are others.

I have to say Crasher is the best bloke we could wish for on the site for his technical knowledge, that is why he is a top class independent he not only pays to support the site each year and has done for years but also helps as a team member, and has the highest post count of anyone...

Any subscription would need work with members help to provide the right benefits, but even two options, "free" and maybe no more than "£5.00" per year would work...

Revenue is still being generated but not to the level it was, I can work on figures based on the last 6 months now and predict the annual shortfall (if any) I am not out to make vast sums apart from paying for the running costs and build up a small buffer to cover the ups and downs...

Thank you all for helping with suggestions so far I do really appreciate it ...

I have to agree about Crasher for sure. His contribution is huge. I don’t know how he has time to work! He should probably be being paid rather than contributing lol. I’ve only been a member this year and all I see is Crasher going out of his way to look things up for people etc.

Not trying to put anyone's nose out of joint, but I do wonder how successful the site would be without Crasher's contributions. 80+% of the site's value to me is reading the insights he has. It's partly why I mention Darkside - getting someone from their group to also add technical insight as part of the quid pro quo of getting business their way would broaden that to more people. Not forgetting Andy, etc who I also enjoy reading but their contributions are far less frequent.

I will be the first to agree, Crasher has been a great asset to the site since almost day 1 and I cannot say how much I appreciate it, he has helped me out more than once... be making his head swell with all this praise lol
