    Vw in their infinite wisdom have again, decided to offer different rear suspension setups depending on which engine size you go for. If you opt for the 150 and above powered engines, you get independent rear suspension,
    anything below this power output and you are lumbered with a single beam back axle. This Mk7/7.5 was 125 hp and above to to get the independent rear suspension.

    Ford do a similar thing with their focus models. iirc its the 1.5 petrol and 2 litre diesel or up that get the rear independent suspension.
