Please forgive my ignorance. I have a 2014 Audi A6 Avant TDI Ultra, with a 1968cc engine. I need to replace the bank 1 particulate filter. Is there any way of knowing the part number of the correct filter, without physically inspecting the vehicle? I am not a mechanic, and there are possibly one or two used filters available on ebay - at much less than the horrendous prices of new ones - even though it has a lower life expectancy than a new one it could be worth it! The vin code is wauzzz465EN203711. Many thanks!

Are you sure you need a new one? Crasher (garage owner and moderator on this forum) sends some away to get professionally cleaned. Might be worth getting in touch with him. He can probably give you the correct part number too.

Thanks, Scott. I am not sure what the problem is. Local specialists (here, in Portugal) have failed to identify the problem or rectify it, despite my having spent time and money trying to get it fixed. This desperation time! I will contact Crasher.

What are the symptoms of the problem, and have you got a scan of all the ECUs with the fault codes?

I have has a range of problems and fault codes. This has led to a 1000 mile cutoff, system fault messages, blocked particulate filter, and more. It has been going on (with Audi garages and others involved) and various components being changed. The latest, which has been displayed before, is P 2002. I can clear it, but it comes back after perhaps 100 miles. So this really is an elimination exercise - if I change the filter and the fault is still there, I will know to look somewhere else, which is why I am keen to get a second hand one, but do need to know the correct part number. Some people have said that there is nothing wrong with the filter; others have said it needs changing. I am using good fuel.

Thank you for including your VIN, if I had my way it would be a required part of every new thread started as it is not GDPR data. HOWEVER, the data is wrong, it should be WAUZZZ4G5EN203711

The original DPF was 04L 131 601 T but has now changed to 04L 131 670 SX which is £1375 UK retail.

Thank you for this excellent help. I shall purhase one from a low-mileage car (25000km) and see how it goes!

Quick update. I have now purchased the filter so usefully identified (thanks again) from a 27k vehicle, for €309 including carriage, being sent from Germany and arriving in a week or two. Once it has arrived and fitted I will see how it goes - you may see a new thread from me if the fault code returns!

A quick further question! When the ‘new’ DPF arrives and is fitted, is it worth replacing anything else at the same time as a precaution (so preventing duplicated workshop fitting costs)? I don’t know how big a job the fitting would be. Thanks.

I'd be tempted to have the new DPF professionally cleaned before installation, it'll help make sure its not blocked or be full of contaminants.
