Hey all, first post here but been told this is the place to be.

I’m having an issue with a Passat 2.0tdi 2007 b6. Been solid as a rock but now decided to through its toys out the pram.
About 4 weeks ago I got engine fault light code p0234 pressure over boost, seems to trigger at 80mph or up hill driving. Since then other symptoms include turbo whistle/whine, jolting at lower revs. Idle seems to be fine & no smoke.
I decided to service to car including fuel filter, remover the egr but function fine. I did find a loose boost pipe to the rear of the engine and refitted. I manually checked the waste gate actuator by hand which it moved but with a fair bit of force & not a lot of travel? So other than testing sensors, vacuum & boost leaks, has anyone had the same issue & point me in a direction in which I’m hoping does not involve removing the turbo! The car is now at 180,000 and has been bomb proof so not ready to write it off yet

You'll find plenty of posts on here about it, many of which do end up with removing and cleaning or replacing the turbo. What engine code is yours?

I was all set to replace the turbo on our BKD Touran. Because it kept tripping into limp more I took to driving it rather than my wife. My daily motorway trips and harder driving style seemed to sort it out after six months, so it was probably coked up rather than actually damaged.

On another car I did replace the turbo: one day job as a novice on a BKD as it'll come out through the exhaust tunnel rather than needing more engine dismantling. When I took it apart there was some damage to the vanes and nicks in the plate that the vanes move over - so I don't think a hard drive decoke would have worked on that although a bit of emery cloth might have cheered it up enough to stop the limp mode. But I'd bought a Melett turbo from Darkside that would fit, so popped that on and all has been well since.

Thanks for the reply. I do fear it’s a turbo remove & overhaul as Iv read the vanes are a common issue. I drive a 60mile round trip to heathrow & back for work which is all motorway so the car gets a good run. Mine is a PD engine. I was hoping for a reply saying a sensor or solenoid lol. I think you maybe right and it’s coked up beyond self clearing
