    Hello I'm new here.
    I have a problem with the B6 2010 passat 6 SW 1.6 TDi 16V FAP BlueMotion 105 cv.
It regularly goes into limp mode, and intermittently has the coil light illuminated as well as the engine warning light on.

I believe my problem relates to a crudded up EGR valve for which I'm looking instructions on how to access and remove and clean, or replace, or even remap -

It is one of the models which required the software update after diesel gate - unfortunately a messed up EGR valve was covered for 2 years after this work, but I am beyond that limit.

So any comment on all that would be very much appreciated......

I've used an EGR emulator from these people with 100% success ( very easy to fit ), but they don't mention your engine code.
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/09-EGR-AGR-Valve-Simulator-for-VW-Audi-Skoda-Seat-1-6-TDI-CAYA-CAYB-CAYC-CAYD/181994477873?hash=item2a5fb75931:g:xEUAAOSwhvFZAvH t

You would need to contact them to see if suitable for your engine.

Thanks, I've sent them a message and await their response...

For instructions, I've searched on line for a description of the process but haven't found anything - does anyone know of a set of instructions for the process of accessing and changing - or a book ?
    Thanks

Hi Philip, that company has confirmed that the EGR emulator is good for my model engine, but I not so sure its going to be easy to fit...mine is apparently located down the back of the engine hidden by turbo and coolant pipes, driveshaft etc..
Do you know of any online instructions for carrying out this procedure?

Also I'm caught between this fitting of the this type of emulator and simply replacing the EGR Valve (doesn't appear to be a great difference in the cost of parts).

Any advice on the choice between these 2 solutions would be appreciated as well.

I've only fitted them to a 2l engine which also has the EGR at the back.

I disconnected the pressure air pipe coming from the turbo & emissions pipe that just pushes into it.

This gives you enough room to get your hand down the back of the engine to disconnect the EGR electrical plug.

You might need a mirror & torch to locate it in the first place as it's a bit hidden.

Plug the free EGR cable into the emulator socket, connect up the other 2 ends to the MAF & you are away.

Blank off the EGR at the front of the engine if it is stuck partially open.

Took me about half an hour.

Compare that to removing the EGR from underneath including drive shaft etc & even more if a 4x4.
Then having to do it all again when it clogs up the next time.

Hi philipharmes, ok I'm thinking the emulator is the way to go....do you know whether cars with these emulators fitted will still pass the MOT?
Also if I do this, should I also look at rolling back the diesel-gate software update, or does the blanking plate and emulator deal with this anyway?

and should I still stick a cleaning product additive through the engine (some one recommended products from Xado), and if so, before or after I fit the emulator?

    Thanks again

The EGR valve reduces NOX emissions which isn't part of the MOT, so yes, it will pass ok.

I have the 2l engine which had already had the software update before I bought it unfortunately.
It runs very well & gives great MPG, so I havn't had the software rolled back.

The inlet manifold will be full of black gunge from the exhaust particulates it has been fed by the EGR mixed with oil vapour.
No cleaning product will remove this other than removing the manifold & manually cleaning it.

OK, I'm going to order that EGR emulator - thanks for the advice.
Am I right in understanding that I won't need to connect to VAG.com type diagnostics to clear the current warning light?
