I've got a week off to sort out the tak-tak-tak noise from the top end of my BKD motor with 185,000 miles. It's been making this moise since I got the car a couple of years ago ... but now it seems to be worsening, and I'm afraid something is going to let go. I'm sort of leaning towards just dropping (a known good) replacement engine in there, due to time constraints (and the relative cheapness of these engines). My question is, will any engine from 2004-09 do - or were there some fundamental changes around the time VAG switched to using the plastic inlet manifold? Mine is the plastic version, a 2008 08 car.
