The door lock is supposed to come off with the panel but you will have to release the bracket by pushing the pegs through, in this case someone had already been in there.

Update - right, that’s the lock out! Couple of hours work but I managed it. Checked the part number on the lock itself & now searching the interweb for a replacement. My number seems different to everything else out there..... I’ll start calling places in the morning (Monday). However, as it’s a cabrio, I put the roof down to give me better access & now it won’t go back up! Tried plugging the old lock back in but no joy. Now I need to take it to my mates with the door tied shut to put it in his garage. You couldn’t script it! Still, once I get a new lock I’ll get it back together & hopefully all will be well.

Update - the beast lives!!! Couldn’t get a genuine lock unless I went to a main dealer. TPS wouldn’t entertain it unless I had a trade account (which I don’t). I have used them before but because of the lockdown...... Anyway, I took a gamble on a beetle hatchback lock from eBay - seller gives a 5 year guarantee & for £22 I thought I’d give it a gamble. An hour later & I had a working lock, the roof was back up but no central locking & no electric door mirror movement. So I checked the door harness & it turned out I had a broken wire (as I had suspected). The wire was red with a yellow stripe running along it & was one of the heavier gauge ones in the harness. Incidentally, this wire goes to the window motor & not to the lock or the mirror which threw me a little. However, I soldered in a new piece of wire to make good the connection & all is working as it should - the central locking is back, as is the electric mirror. All fault codes cleared & things look good to go. Fingers crossed all will be well from now on!
