    Hi,

I've just purchased an 09 plate mk6 golf tsi 1.4 SE. When I got it home I tried connecting my phone. After lot of looking online I'm more confused than I was before!

I've figured out I've got an RDC 510 headunit and I've got the steering wheel controls. Looking under both the drivers and passangers seats I can't find a bluetooth module. The MFD in the centre of the dash is white (if that helps).

I believe I'm looking for a 9w7 bluetooth module and associated wiring. I am confident I can fit the parts myself but looking around I've seen some people say early mk6s need a 9w3 module and that the modules need codeing regardless?? I'd be less confident doing this and have no idea where to start in terms of learning how to or getting someone do it for me.

I would mainly like some guidance as to what to do, I'm new here and if I'm in the wrong place please point me in the right direction.

For our 08 plate Touran with red display I got a 7P6035730J 9w7 unit, even though that is designed for a white dot display. There are multiple layers to the compatibility. Firstly you want a module that works well with your phone, and secondly does something useful with the car.

My reading suggested that earlier modules didn't have a good combination of Bluetooth profiles for phone and media streaming use, so even if it worked with the car it'd be a pretty frustrating experience.

I'm not sure I found much info on the second part, but took a chance that the module would work fine with the radio (RNS510 in my case) even if it didn't work with the dash due to the DDP / BAP signalling protocol difference. That turned out to be true - it does everything you'd expect with making and receiving calls, streaming music, etc from the radio's touchscreen display and buttons. It doesn't do anything with the dash status display. The only steering wheel button that does anything useful is the * button where I can say "dial number 01234 ...", and that works because the voice control is an RNS510 feature.

In short, I think a 9w7 module will be fine for you, and probably be fully featured as you have a white display.

You do need to code the car to tell it there is now a telephone module installed. A VCDS cable can do that and people on here that are nearby may be willing to pop over and do that for you. Not sure if things like OBD11 can also do it.

Brilliant, thank you so much! I'll look into the VCDS code!

BTW, I think the 9W... PR codes are for North America market. 9Z... for Europe. But you see the 9W ones on eBay.uk listings - no idea if the sellers really know what they are though!
