Weird noise - air suspension compressor?

Quick question as I couldn’t find much here already on this. At the weekend two times when I started the car from being cold (off for several hours) there was a brief loud hissing noise somewhere near the rear, almost like a white noise generator. Came on and off once only for about 5-10 seconds straight after the car started. Then nothing unusual after that. I hadn’t adjusted the ride height and the car didn’t appear to be low. No error messages and it drives normally. Of course I’ve tried now to video it to post here on several occasions and it has not done it since. I’ve also adjusted the ride height up/down whilst in the garage, and no loud noise.

Anyone got any ideas? I can dig my OBDEleven out and have a look for codes, any sections to look at? Otherwise I may take as precaution to the dealer anyway for a check.

I often hear mine hiss from the back sometimes just by unlocking it.
I figured it was just re-adjusting after a period of being idle.
Well I hope so anyway as it’s only done 3,000 miles and is 6 months old!!

It’s entirely possible I’ve just never noticed it before as I normally am in the car with windows up when it starts... Not done it again this week so far... Will see.

Yeah I’ve noticed this many times on my car - more so if I open the boot first to load stuff in etc it adjusts itself

Perfectly normal. Its just the system ensuring a level . It will do this when you unlock and lock too (sometimes, not all the time).

Mine does it all the time.

Sadly it appears not sadly. Got in the car today after maybe a week and a half in garage. After about 200m down the road I got this warning. Also i noticed the engine fan was full blast, but that may be coincidental, although I’ve normally only seen that straight after a incomplete regen cycle. Call to the dealer tomorrow morning...

So... Air Suspension Control Unit failed. Part is on back order, will find out how long early next week. Thankfully covered by the extended warranty. I couldn’t find much searching web on that failure for the current series Q7 anyone got any insights?

Update... they fixed the control unit only for it to then tell them there was a fault with the air compressor too... apparently they needed to replace the control unit first. Anyway new one of those expensive items arriving today from stock and should get car back later in week fingers crossed. Dealer v helpful.

Bit concerned over pattern of expensive component failures - 3 in 3 years of approved used ownership (AdBlue system, coolant leak, now this). Love the car too much though (with all its gadgets :-)) and extended warranty covers it, so far.

All done... dealer first rate helpful (Hitchin Audi). Went for decent test drive, all seems fine. No hiss. Phew.
