    Good afternoon all,

I am a new member on this forum and would appreciate any help I can get.

In 2017 I bought a second hand 2013 Audi Q7 3.0 tdi 245bhp with 102.000 miles. It all went well during the first year but then it had the first episode of overheating while on motorway. Since then multiple similar episodes occurred, initially very spaced out and then more frequent. Notice that these episodes only happen when the car is on motorway (> 65mph for a prolonged time) or when in effort, like going uphill. It has been 3x to an Audi garage but they cannot find anything obvious, the computer does not accuse anything abnormal and they cannot “trigger” the overheating at all as they don’t have permission to drive at > 60mph! Then I took it to a standard garage/mechanic that would also not identify the problem. Initially replaced the coolant thermostat (didn’t fix the problem), followed by the water pump (also didn’t fix it) and ultimately flushed the coolant system and replaced the heater core valve, which also did not fix the problem. They are without any other options! They stated they cannot spot any coolant leaks anywhere and that the pressure test comes back normal. Also no signs of coolant contamination in the oil. This past winter a new sign started: no heating in the cabin even when climatronic is set to “Hi”. Awkwardly occasionally the heat comes, mostly when idle for a prolongued time, but then it goes when the car starts moving again... Initially thought of a faulty heater core valve but this has been replaced and did not fix the problem. A clogged heater core would cause the heater not to work but would that cause the car/coolant to overheat?
I am not a mechanic but when I looked into the latest repair (the heater core valve replacement) and under this valve goes a pipe that seems to be disconnected (I am posting a picture); any ideas what that might be?

Last but not least, I am considering doing an heater core flush; do you know if this hoses are the ones that take the coolant to the heater core? I am asking because the heater core valve seems to be in a different position...

Thank you very much for your help!
Any ideas or suggestions are very welcomed.

The symptom suggests a failing head gasket(s) and is extremely hard to diagnose, even more difficult to fix!

Sorry to bring up an old post but did you ever get to the bottom of this? I’m having the exact same problems as you described.
