    Hi All.

My Audi 2014 Audi A6 C7 2.0tdi ultra Stronic. Few weeks ago whilst driving Glow plug light come on the dash
along with a orange triangle with explanation mark in the centre. On my display it read GEARBOX MALFUNCTION YOU MAY CONTINUE DRIVING LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY. The car would go into Limp mode and jerk and skip gears only selecting Gears 2,3 and 5 (very confused)
sometimes the problems will disappear 30-40seconds,other times i would have to stop, switch engine off then restart and will have no problems.

I have changed Gearbox oil and filter

Also i have connected to VCDS

:P0736 Transmission input speed sensor (G182)

My mechanic wants me to change the Mechatronic unit,
which is costing north of £2000+VAT
    Anyone has similar fault!

Any advice or help from anyone would be great thanks

Is he a gearbox specialist? If not, take it to one. Could be mechatronic but it needs correct diagnosis.

    Hi Alan

I got the transmission serviced by a specialist he’s saying full diagnosis can’t be done until gearbox is off.
Everyone i have spoken don’t know for sure what the fault is but are pointing at the gearbox.I have been told by some that if it was the mechatronic unit the car wouldn’t move from park. This is the most confusing and frustrating fault I’ve ever had.
    regards
    Nabeel

Could be the G182 speed sensor is faulty or the wiring. This would be a much cheaper fix. Try ross tech for the fault codes and see what they suggest (Ross tech make the VCDS and have a very active forum). Apologies if you already know this and have checked.
If the car has FSH by Audi they may be willing to help.

It sounds like the garage want to send the mechatronic unit away to be diagnosed. Okay in one respect but it depends on how well the unit is tested. I've heard of various ECU being tested and passed as working but still faulty. Has he done any diagnosis? And plugging in obd and reading a code isn't diagnosing faults.

What's the rest of the fault code? The explanatory text is missing.
