I want to wire my Netbase Dash cam to one of the side fuse areas, either drivers or passenger side using a piggy back fuse.

My power cable to the Netbase has two wires, one red, one black.

I am right to assume that the red wire is connected to the piggy back fuse connector and the black is ground to metal on the car?

Also which fuse is best to use on which side of the car.

    The car is a 2009 A8.

    Thanks for any advice.

There is already a connector in the ovehead light for a camera (lane change assist). It is 12V with the ignition on.
You can put a 12v - USB convertor in that area, there is space. I can't remember which pins are live - you will have to test, but I think it's the middle 2 (2 & 3). You just have to poke the cable in the gap between the headlining and window and pull it through.

Thanks snapdragon. If I may indulge a little more? If I was to still use the left hand fuse panel and choose the lane assist fuse which is currently empty how would I need to wire up to the piggy back fuse. Li have already lopped off the cigarette lighter style connector on the end of my dashcam power cable exposing a black and red wire. Is it red to the fuse and black to ground or are they both to the fuse? Thanks again

If your dashcam is a Nextbase rather than a Netbase, you may find that the cigarette lighter adapter you "lopped off" is actually a converter from 12 volts to 5 volts.

If you connect the dashcam directly to a 12 volt supply you may smoke it

You can use something like this to convert 12v back to 5V USB.

The red wire goes to the piggy back fuse and the black to negative (ground) - usually you will find a nut on the structure of the car with one or more brown wires attached to it. Use this location.

Thanks Snapdragon I appreciate the help and advice. Can I apply the same principal to my phone charger? Its one of those that opens and closes automatically and charges the phone via wireless. It also currently has a cigarette lighter adaptor on the end.

I was thinking of wiring this to the drivers side fuse area piggy backing off one of the cigarette lighter fuses. I assume i would need to also put thus through a converter? As front and back cigarette lighter fuses are in this area. I.e one for the dash cam and one for the phone holder? I was thinking of using them. What do you think?

All sorted. Both my dash cam and phone charger now installed via direct connection to fuse box on drivers side.
