    Hiya everyone!

My A3 model as above. I want to buy oil, and the manual recommends VW 507 00. However, I find two different types to buy when entering my reg, as per below:

    Shell Helix HX8 ECT 5W-40 - 5Ltr | Car Parts 4 Less

    Shell Helix HX8 ECT 5W-30 - 5Ltr | Car Parts 4 Less

What I could find from search is that 5w-30 is for "younger" engines and 5w-40 is for "high mileage". I have 126k miles, so I'm assuming I should go for 5w-40? The other one is twice the price, which I'm willing to pay if it's actually better for my car, but I just don't know anything about these things.

So if anyone can shed a light, I'd appreciate it.

Following details are from the car papers, if it helps:

    Car sales model 8PABHD
    BLS engine
    KBL gearbox

    A3 Spb TDIe 1.9 R4 77 DPF
    Model year 2010

    Thanks in advance!

Yes , but I'm sure it's expensive , cheapest approved is Quantum Longlife III but non approved supermarket 507.00 can be sometimes found at bargain prices and don't fear it's quality either .

Agreed. I didn't have tome to mention that. Darkside is a reliable source: Darkside Developments - Genuine VW Quantum Longlife 3 Engine Oil 5W-30 5L

My local motor factors usually have Granville or Comma which Im happy to use, thus type of thing: Granville 5w/30 Full Syn VW LL – Rumney Motor Spares or https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-147532-...ngine-oil.aspx
