Hi... remember I know nowt about these odd diesel engines ..... this is the first one I've ever had in 40 odd years of petrol head enjoyment !! This is a 3.0 turbo V6 Allroad

Due to the present covid crisis, the beast is getting very few drives, and those that do occur are shortish - max about 15-20 miles, and that is going the long way round to get to the few places I must get to !! otherwise , for health reasons, we simply don't go out.

Everything I read tells me that short trips are bad for most bits of this engine from the Turbo through to the Cat to the DPF .. but I have no choice at the moment.

I am considering using a fuel additive in an attempt to reduce any problems, and the best I seem to find is "Archoil AR6400-D Max Professional" which claims to fix all the problems mentioned.

Question then, for you guys who "know" these things ... is this a "snakeoil" type claim .. or do these additives work ?? Is it likely to cause any damage or other problems to this engine ?? Is there anything else I should know/be aware of before going down this track ??

Regards and stay safe .... E

You are 99.99 percent worrying over nothing, and if something does go wrong (which it wont) it was going to go wrong anyway, lack of use or not.

Pretty much all the fuel additives are snake oil.
The only ones that actually do anything are the fuel stabiliser type used in the leisure boat world, and all they basically do is stop the growth of the fuel bug.

Wifes 3.0tdi has done all of maybe 20 miles in the last 8 weeks, and if it does another 20 miles in the nxt 5 weeks I would be amazed.

It's not snake oil when you have your own set of several years worth of Mot smoke opacity test results .

I doubted the accuracy from machine to machine , when in my new ownership the average was 0.02 from the past year somewhere else .

    2T alone halved it !

As for 2-EHN it's a bonified Cetane booster and is added to diesel , premium diesel has more supposedly but it's all a con as Cetane number is not disclosed in UK .

And cheaper to add yourself , buy 5L , I add 200ml 2T and 40ml 2- EHN pre made up in multiple used 250ml Redex bottles.

Still snake oil until you can prove via reliable results, otherwise it is just your opinion, same as mine, which both mean squat.
Note the makers have very little in the way of quantifiable test results?

There is a thread somewhere, on this forum I think? with a reply from the makers of 2so saying, do not use their product in diesel engines.

Like a lot of white papers they are technically flawed , it's studying JASO FC 2 Stroke , those in the know use JASO FB , big base oil difference !!

I have great pleasure of late on debunking a white paper on the drive by wire throttle improver 'Sprint Booster' I've not yet mentioned the huge technical flaw yet , it's very simple but has worldwide been overlooked, similar mistake to this JASO FC 2T technical study .

So why do you think my smoke opacity halved , lol ?

Yup, provided they can all be solved with a good healthy dollop of 2 stroke.
