That is a pet hate of mine, diesels smoking excessively, soemtime amazed when I see what I would class as recent cars blowing black.
You can get power and no visible smoke, when was the lastt ime you saw a modern ruck making smoke?

I spent ages messing with older diesels trying to get power and minimal smoke, easy when the rpms up, but low to mid rpms and a tadge to much fuel oh dear!

    Nah he wouldnt!
I literally drive the same route boring every day and have done for years, I can tell you exactly when/where the car is going to change up and down a gear before it does it.
I work odd shifts and the roads are normally quiet, so apart from the weather not much changes day to day
I can say hand on heart it is no different to how it starts/runs and drives on straight derv.

This is true with newer cars particularly those with balancer shafts or smooth V6 .

I think most of the time, smokey diesels mean the air filter is dirty/clogged.

Fuel wise, Shell V-Power to clean the injectors etc.

personally, I only use Shell diesel.

I use the normal Shell diesel.

Shell petrol got my old Senator starting first time everytime with no churn. Any other fuel and it would start first time, but would churn for 5-10 seconds before firing up. So, Shell everytime for me.
