Polo 5 only blowing hot air through AC

Hi!

I have recently bought a Volkswagen Polo 5 Sportline 1.2 TSI 110hp, and I found that my AC is only blowing hot air. So I went to a mecanic here in France and they told me it was a leak, and that it was probably the Air Conditioning Condenser that had a leak, and that replacing it would cost about 600€ (530£). I find this really expensive, and I think that the mecanic is lying to me, and trying to rip me off. What do you think ?

A genuine VAG condenser is around €350 and they are prone to corrosion. Did they check the pressure in the system? If it is flat the first step is a leak test using ultra violet dye and if the condenser is leaking, the price you have been quoted must include labour and gas which is getting very expensive since the EU have limited production and so the price has shot up.
