    Greetings again Experts!
A 'while I'm at it ' job --- have the EGR Cooler from above the exhaust manifold off .---- thought to clean it out while its off .---- the flap valve part is fine and easy to clean but the cooler part cannot be mechanically cleaned ( unlike on the 1.6 TDI) so please gentlemen, WHAT IS BEST TO CHEMICALLY DISSOLVE THE CARBON IN THAT ?

    Thanks as ever.

Try oven cleaner. Or an ultrasonic cleaning bath if you have access to one.

    Again Scott, Thanks.
Oven cleaner seemed to work a bit but, for others reference, I tried "Agerul" -- a strong kitchen grease cleaner which I believe has a good dose of ammonia --- it works very well and doesn't harm the alloy casing or the fins insert .
    Kind regards
