    Apperently it won't hurt not to whilst the belt is being changed (at no extra cost). Does this sound right or is it asymptomatic of another issue wih the sensor itself?

    Garage is doing this presale and mentioned the sensor.

    Sounds very nice of them if there's nothing hidden.

    The belt is at one end of the engine and the crank speed sensor (G28) is at the other buried inside the bell housing behind the flywheel covered by the oil filter bracket so either they mean the camshaft position sensor G40 which is behind the belt pulley or they are worried it has a G28 problem which is very common and evil to change with a nasty clock up potential.
    Anthropogenic climate change, the biggest con inflicted on mankind since religion...
