    Hi guys

I have been looking at getting my CAVD remapped I have found a company but the remap can be done at my home which I can only guess it’s a generic map for a CAVD and the ecu is just re flashed.

is this ideal for the CAVD engine, the engine is completely stock and has done 128,000

Not true , your ecu is read and your actual map is sent via email for modification and is then received back and applied .

Generic really applies to old cars that back in the day that received no software updates or hardware that had to be adapted or coded in .

Now nearly every service there seems to be an update and not for the better..

Beware a software update to the ECU will wipe a remap.

I am beginning to hate that engine with a passion, remapping one is like pulling the pin on a grenade! They eat pistons, burn valves and throw timing chains... just putting another one back together at the moment, well after lunch anyway.

    A typical CAVD piston

Using 95RON fuel, long service intervals and unsuitable oil contributes to the problem, that car was standard.

Despite knowing the perils of this engine, i have one and love it, and haven't had any problems in the last 40k miles. It lives on super unleaded, has an annual service with quality oil and filter. I love the combination of perky performance from low revs (supercharger) and economy on a cruise. Even the very latest equivalent model has less power.
But I certainly won't be asking it to produce any more power than it was meant to, the only thing I've done is a k&n panel filter.

The key is 99RON fuel, the later pistons we fit by Nural have thicker ring lands which is supposed to help.
