It's whether the same underboost code is being stored that interests me.

Just read the codes again, 17964 Charge pressure control: Negative deviation P1556 - 35-00 - -
I'll meter out the earth wires tomorrow, I don't have a multimeter at home today.

Thanks for all your input and help, much appreciated.

There is something fundamentally wrong with your boost control systems vacuum circuit.

I checked the earths to the MAP and MAF sensors, both are ok.
The MAP sensor has 4.8V to pin 4 (ignition on, sensor plugged in). I have 5v to pin 2 with the MAP unplugged. I metered out pin 3 to 31 on the ECU all ok.
The MAF sensor has 14.4v to pin 2 (engine running).

I put a vac line from the servo line directly to the VNT actuator, thinking this would give me over boost, still no power at all.

Could the new turbo in someway be faulty? it spins by hand. I did also have the lack of power just before changing the turbo but I put this down to the turbo being stuck solid.

If you still have the original, send it to Midland Turbo for rebuild.

I know you've changed the MAP sensor, but have you checked in measuring blocks what the ECU is seeing from this sensor.

Could be a wiring fault that is killing the MAP signal.

Today I cleaned up and fitted a new cartridge to my old original turbo. I fitted it to the car, couldn’t see anything wrong with the (new) one that came off so not too hopeful.
Only had time for a short test drive, but seems to be fixed! I’ll hopefully take it for a better run tomorrow, and inspect the turbo I removed a bit more thoroughly.
