    Hi!
    How do I remove the locking ring seen in the pictures below?
    Situated on the axel of a starter.
    The "locking ring" seems to be made of piano wire or something like that.
    The "gap" /"opening" of the ring can be seen in picture 2

    First you have to push the collar off the locking ring, towards the starter body. You can probably use a small bearing puller, as used in the next step, to fit into the groove in the ring and grip it.
    Pushing the collar this way should force the ring down into the groove, reducing its diameter, so that the collar pops over it.

    Now that the ring is exposed, the next step is to remove it. It can be prised off, starting from one end, with a small screwdriver or similar, but I just found this video with a neater method.
