The rear nearside caliper decided to just fail bad, seal has gone and its cracked. ive been looking online for a replacement but its hard to find anywhere that has an allroad listed from 2001, others that say theyre not compatible with my reg. to be honest im looking at used preferable from ebay, im still waiting to hear if the car has been written off after someone took out one side so i dont want to put money into it but im stuck needing it for now.

Do you not get a hire car while the insurers make up their minds about your car? Or have they declined on the basis that yours is still drivable? Is there any way the accident could have damaged the caliper? If so, surely that makes your car undrivable, at least for now, and you should be claiming the hire car.

If your insurance doesn't include one directly, you may still be able to get the other party's insurance to pay for one. When, while I was asleep in bed, some fool drove into the back of an old Volvo I had, on advice from someone in the insurance industry, I approached his insurer along the lines of "Your client has driven into the back of my parked car and made it undrivable. I don't think there is any doubt about liability so I believe I am entitled to a hire car at your expense and I suspect you can hire one for me cheaper than me doing so and sending you the bill." Their response was "We are not disputing liability, We will have our hire car suppler call you within half an hour" and they did.
