Hi, I’ve got an intermittent issue with the near side mirror indicator.

Every now and then it will stop operating and the light bulb indicator comes on the dash briefly then disappears shortly afterwards (light on dash goes once operation of indicator resumes).

I am suspecting bad wiring or the indicator LED PCB board is failing? Cracked solder?

I don’t have access to the wiring diagrams for this so not sure of it’s operation and where the wires go
    to?

Could it be bad wiring in the door jam?

Or wiring to the window motor module?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

The indicator is operated by the window controller and commanded by a CAN BUS signal from the central electrics whereas the other indicators are powered from the central electrics, do you know that the other left indicators are not acting the same way? Have you noticed the same behavior when arming/disarming the alarm?

Could it be damaged wiring in the door jam? I know this is a common problem....I replaced the whole loom on the driver side door when the fuel cap release stopped working....

Hi Crasher....regarding your comments it appears to be isolated to the mirror indicator only....all other bulbs on the LHS front and rear are working ok....

However I did have to replace the indicator bulb on the front LH headlight as the bulb went.....hoping this isn't anything suspcious....power surge / bad wiring?

When operating the LH indicator via the stalk on the column all the LH indicator bulbs work apart from the wing mirror LED indicator.....sometimes it will spring back into life.....which could be due to

going over bumps....moving the wiring / connections....suspecting this is probably the issue...

I've not got another LHS indicator to test howveer I could probably use a RH which I have spare and see if that makes any difference?

I did strip the LH indicator from the wing mirror to inspect the wiring and sprayed contact cleaner.....this seemed to remedy the issue....but not for long....

I know unplugging and plugging in again can help remove any oxidation on the connectors...perhaps I should clean them up with emery?

Does everything else on the door work, I have had two instances now of 4 door Golf 5's shutting down everything on the left side doors front and rear.

The door lock no longer works but think that might be failed motor solenoid.

From memory i think all the switch illumination still works on LHS.

My 4 door golf only has front electric windows.

I will check later if the rear door is locking or not on the LHS.

What you thinking it might be? Failing CCM?

Will post a VCDS auto scan also to see what codes are being registered.

Ok I will give disconnecting the battery a go but I am doubtful as have had the battery disconnected recently and made no difference.

The issue is intermittent....not sure where to go next.

Scan for the car is here......

Not showing any codes for the mirror indicators though? Was expecting an intermittent code to confirm a wiring issue.....

    Any ideas?

These could be spiking the door controller.

Replace the door locking module? Will check wiring first in door jam and see if any breaks.....not sure I want to fork out for a new harness!
