    Hi,

I was about to the rear discs today but have found that the carrier has two XZN 12 point spline bolts - any idea as to its size? I have a M12 and M14, but one seems too small, the other too big.

It would normally be obvious that the goldilocks size is M13 XZN spline, but after trawling everywhere, all I can see is M12 and M14!

Does anyone know for this model?

    regards

    Karl

Actually, does anyone even know if I even have to remove the carrier to change the rotor/disc?

It should be XZN 14 and whether or not you have to take the carrier off varies according to disc size, some you can, some you can't.

Well if ever I felt silly, I do now. I had another look earlier, and just to confirm, on my carrier it's a M14, not M12 which I read, thought, and believed it to be. Maybe someone replaced mine with a different type. Not sure, but what the hell anyways.
But here's the silly bit. You don't even have to remove the carrier! After removing the T30 disc holding screw, the disc can slide out from under carrier without issue. No fiddling or fettling, it's designed to slide out. First car I have ever come across where your able to do this. Rock on Audi lol.

Oh and thanks for the reply "Crasher". Thankfully mine is the type that you can slide out.
Talk about feeling a bit silly lol.

Well next job is transmission oil, axle and transfer box oil and filter changes. I have everything from filters to VCDS, tools to lift (friend of mine has one), so if I don't learn anything doing these jobs I have nothing left to learn. Should be interesting though. Car has 85K on her and is due a change, and that will do for another 60k (at least I think its 60K).

Don't forget you will need an oil dispenser pump to get the ATF back in.
