    Dear all

After running a Passat TDI 130 Sport for last 11 years, I have recently returned to the Audi club after purchasing a 2010 A6 S-Line SE 2.0TDI with 155K. Before the Passat, I had an Audi 80 1.9TDI that was built like a tank.

Do you recommend having a performance upgrade such as tuning box or ECU reprogrammed?
A search on the Audi website revealed my new car was involved in dieselgate. Unfortunately the car was recalled and the work done to fudge the NOx emissions. Therefore, do you recommend having the firmware fix 'rolled back' to 2010?

    1) If so, what approximate costs am I likely to face?
    2) Can you recommend garage in the Yorkshire area where the rollback and/or performance mod can be performed?
    3) Can I expect and increase in mpg's and performance if the car is rolled back? For info, I don't drive very fast, and use full power infrequently.

    Best regards

    Gareth

Remap is far superior and safer !

Most important is the engine code as it might be affected by an inferior 77mm oil pump drive .

Amen to that... I had an 02 plate Passat Sport as a company car BITD. It used to cruise down the motorway at 120 very comfortably indeed. I put over a 100k on it, and it never missed a beat - not a single thing went wrong with it, other than the usual consumables. A really, really good car.

In terms of performance upgrades, I plugged in a Tunit V-PD performance box that I obtained from Fleabay for about £25. It is a marvel. Whack it up to the max power setting, and it makes a very marked improvement in power, as well as offering at least 5+ MPG in fuel savings. Pre-box I was around 34-36 MPG, post-box I am 39-42MPG. On a motorway run, easily 45-48MPG, sometimes over 50MPG if you're really sensible!

I did look at remap myself, but most locals wanted £150-£250 for the job, with no real guarantees on what you actually get. What I did was a bargain, and I was delighted with the results. Easy to fit yourself, all installed and wired in in about 10-15 minutes. You'll just need a small cable plug from your local Halfords to properly clamp the negative down on to the negative post in the engine bay.

That mpg gain was false as the ecu is fooled into uping the fuel pressure in the fuel rail which the extra is then not accounted for because of the fooling .

So, how is it that I spend less at the fuel pumps, and re-fill less often? (and have more range from a full tank than I used to)

Must be magic especially for £25 as they dump the derv in , diesels aren't fussy about air / fuel ratios , more fuel more go .

Maybe I should take the UPsolue off and buy a museum resistor box .

Wow , I wish I had 155 BHP , if you think 25bhp has had "a very marked improvement in power" , casts doubt on other things said especially when the company isn't claiming mpg benefits.

People must be mad to buy these new for £460 , 25bhp , wow.

    They belong in the bin.

Anyway back to the matter in hand the OP's new A6 , what engine code is it BTW , important !?

With NOx emissions updates always best where possible to roll back and start from there .

No, not magic. Simple experience. It's clear that you don't have any of this unit yourself, so why you would comment to dismiss my personal experience is pretty rude don't you think? It's a fairly ignorant post also; "more fuel more go" is incorrect. We both know that it's nowhere near as simple as that in a high pressure fuel environment.

Actually the company does make MPG fuel benefits. I made contact with them prior to deciding to go this route instead of re-map. But again, as you've no direct experience, only your non-view of non-experience counts here right?

Can't really understand why my direct experience seems to upset your mojo so much. If I were you, and had no experience of the kit, I think I'd be interested to learn about the driver's direct experience. Still, could be me... could be that you just don't want to hear it for some reason. Kind of odd... BTW - as per my OP, I didn't drop £460 on it. I bought a used one for £25. Bargain. Re-maps don't offer a great deal more, particularly on older, higher mileage engines, which can only be proven on a power dyno in any event.

It's really odd that you utterly dismiss the adjustable re-map from the Tunit boxes, but put all of your stock in a hard-coded (non-removable or changeable) remap. They are both designed to achieve the exact same thing, in two slightly different ways.

    Simply amazing !

The depth of blinkers are feet deeper than the norm .

Older engines - depends on how they are maintained , the 130 PD is a 300K ++ with the right oil !

So big question , on a realistic heart breaker dyno did you get a print out ?

No, what's "simply amazing" is how rude you are to other users and their experiences. The depths of stubbornness and ignorance are feet deeper than the norm.
