    The latter.

    IMHO there's 2 options:

    1. Accept that we have a serious issue and follow the guidance.

    2. Don't and act for self, self, self....

    Andy.

Now my mother can't get cat food and as she is 80 she can't go out, utter madness, personally I would shot them. Do you know almost everyone is sold out of freezers! Insanity and if they don't stop, the government will stop them.

We do have a serious problem. Our rate of infection is continuing to exceed what the Italians had / have. If people don't rapidly start doing what is asked for them it'll be enforced stay at home with police and troops on the streets .

The thing is, do we cripple the NHS for a few months or financially destroy the country for the next 50 years? I hope I am wrong and Boris is getting the right advice.

It's vry challenging for the economy. It looks like with reasonable care about 1% of people infected die, and 5%+ need critical care. If we build to 20k avsilable ventilators we'll be able to care for 400k infected at any time. Infection lasts about 2 weeks, so with various thinhs falling into place and throttling economy to only let that many be ill we can get about 10m people through in a year. That's a decent number to keep core services running, but lraves the other 50m+ not feeding into economy gor haircuts, newspapers, buying houses, buying fuel, needing car services, etc. Then hopefully a vaccine within 24 months.

Or let it rip thtough at a higher rate so vast number of survivors return to normal in similar time frame...
