    Hi all,
I’m considering an uprated (K&N?) air filter for my 3.0 TDi [272ps], but is it worth it?
    What are people’s thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Steve 😊

I would explain why this is such a bad idea, but, I can't be *****.

On cars with a hot film Air Mass Meter an oiled air filter can be a problem but my experience of selling K&N over 40 years is that the direct panel filters do not cause a problem, cone filters have made me wonder a few times. My own car and Mrs Crashers have run a K&N for a decade or more and no AMM issues, in fact I have not replaced an AMM for years now. Having said that, they make bugger all difference on a turbo car and I would challenge anyone to measure plausible and repeatable gain on a rolling road... On the 84 Scirocco 2 I have just done a 2 litre conversion on, the K&N I fitted MAY possibly register 1 ish BHP if you had equipment accurate enough.

I always think the panel filters make a deeper sound when you accelerate.
Giving the impression of more speed!

    less changing of them though.
You can also get cotton ones with no oil.
