    Hello,

I recently purchased a 2016 sline Q7 with air suspension on standard 20" wheels with 285/45/20 tyres.

I don't currently need tyres, but am researching my options.

It has been suggested elsewhere a 255/50/20 tyre would fit that wheel, with a slight reduction in speedo accuracy (but well within acceptable limits).

Audi have told me they won't fit.

Could anyone here give me a steer on this please?

    Many Thanks

You might get joy by finding A8 Crasher and asking him. He posts in this forum occasionally.

Do you have the J size for the wheel? There's a guide here that might help you work it out: Tyre equivalence: Car tyre tips - Pneus Online

Just curious, what are you trying to achieve going that size? By going non standard you probably risk something down the line such as warranty, insurance or even safety.. the car has been designed and tested with the official recommended sizes only I would assume.

    Thanks for all replies.
    I believe the J size is 9.

This was the thread i got the information from:
    https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-mkii-discussion-211/255-50r20-fit-18-q7-2979789/

Am just curious as to if anyone has fitted the smaller tyre as from what I can establish it will fit. Although I would like to have it confirmed and be 100% sure - I currently take everything Audi tell me with a pinch of salt.

The reason is it opens a lot more tyre choice - all season etc.

The safety question is my concern and am trying to establish if it is a possibility. Would it somehow affect the air suspension calibration for example?

It is not true that 255/50/20 will not fit. Original Audi winter wheels 4M0073220 have 255/50/20. It should only be on the rim 8Jx20. I don't see the reason why winters could be of this size and summer or all season not.

I think that was the bit I was missing. My rims would be 9J and not 8J. So to fit that tyre size I would require new rims.
