Hi All , can anyone please help? Im getting the orange coil warning light and start stop de-activation warning come up when starting my A8 3.0 TDI D4. The car starts ok but sometimes it takes a second press as it stops turning over on the first one after a second or so. Tried clearing the fault but it comes up again when starting the engine. checked the battery, it has plenty of charge .

I ran an obd scan and P30500 code comes up with details of "starter solenoid short to ground/open circuit terminal 50" . Is this solenoid on the starter motor itself or on a fuse board elsewhere, i.e. necessitating replacement of starter motor or just a solenoid block?

Just some background to this - checked where the starter is located and the big earth return cable on the starter was loose and was arcing out , would this have cooked the relay ?

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi,
    always worth changing the solenoid/relay.
Not sure where it is, it should be reachable..... (famous last words)

Arcing would not have helped the relay.
