You shouldn't be worried about the tensioner, it is pretty straightforward tbh. I'm in the middle of writing up a guide on how I did my timing belt, a few things will apply to you I guess. There are videos on youtube on how to do it, but use that as a reference just to see what the job involves, don't use it as a guide as I've seen some mistakes happen. If you provide the engine code crasher maybe able to provide you with the workshop manual guide on how to do it. You will need that so you get the correct torque figures. You can use Erwin VW otherwise and get an hours membership I believe it is, download as many guides as you like.

Where people go wrong with this job is simply not doing it properly because they don't know, I guess that's where we come in, to make sure you're informed. I wont lie I also did this job for bragging rights. The amount of knowledge I had on the job, I knew what to do so just bit the bullet and did it. Some mistakes you can get away with, but some things performed need to be 100% perfect. How people destroy their engines commonly when doing this job on these engines is getting the tensioner fitment wrong.

Your absolutely right seeing as it is an interference engine so I need it to be 100%. One day I'll probably invest in a delphi software computer to have access to the guides/references, unless there is a better computer out there that does that kind of stuff?

I'll look into Erwin VW and see how that all works cheers

I'll also grab the engine code as I don't know it off the top of my head and I'll pass that on to crasher

Will you be finished your step-step guide soon as I won't be carrying out the job until a month or 2 from now?

    Regards
    Foxy

Oh it'll be finished by then. I did the job on a 2.0 tdi Scirocco but the principle is still the same.

I don't know about guides, I just downloaded the workshop engine manual for my car and I use vagcom for all the software related stuff.

Your jack under the engine to lift and lower the engine will be fine. You will need two jacks though as one will be holding the car at the drivers side sill as the drivers side wheel will be removed to access lower timing belt area.

    Sounds good man

I'll keep in touch with you closer to the time of when I fit the belt and maybe get a copy of your own guide

I'm gonna use an axle stand to hold the car while I use the jack for the engine
