    Hi all,

Recently noticed that the washer bottle has needed filling up more & more often.

Today needed 2 litres after filling it up yesterday and there is now a wet patch by the drivers side front wheel.

I'm guessing it's a split pipe but has anyone had something similar happen and could offer any suggestions about where to start looking?

Hopefully it's not a full bumper off, wheel liners out, strip down......

    Thanks in advance.

    Andy.

    Thanks for the reply.

Oh well, I'll get the chance to have a good look around while I'm in there.

Just done mine, 2 metres of rubber hose. Removed as much of the old corregated original as possible but VW put it inside the electrical loom conduit, why, why, why! Bumper cover undone but left propped on a rolling seat and only the drivers side pulled aside to reveal the motor and pipe routing. Inner wheel arch cover partially undone and pulled out of the way with a bungy after lower quarter section removed. Wrapped looms carefully undone / cut with a Stanley blade and retaped after new hose routed (old pieces removed). Fairly easy but fiddly job and took me an hour and a half.

    Hi Mitch,

Quick question, which rubber hose did you get? There's so many on a well known auction site that I'm baffled .

And did you need any in line connectors? One way valve?

    Thanks in advance.

    Andy.

Just a 2 metre VW beetle 5/32 rubber tube around £4 on ebay. All my connectors were fine as it was perished pipework that was leaking right near to the washer bottle and where the pipework enters the Scuttle area. Was fiddly getting the hose onto the bonnet washer jet from inside the hole, very tight. I have some pics but not the best illustrations of the job. PM me your email address if you want them. The hose itself loops from the washer bottle almost back on itself following the inner framework into the engine then disappears inside the large loom conduit that runs past the upper part of the water bottle in 2 sections bending around the top of the coolant expansion tank before it hairpins into the bulkhead slot under a plastic junction cover then routes around the top of the Scuttle attaching to the connector of the first washer jet in the bonnet which alao branches off to the second jet.

Great, I'll get ordering and get the tools out next week - if it stays dry.

    Update....

It looks like the leak is coming from the pump itself? Or maybe the rubber grommet?

I can't see any water coming from the lines themselves,

Could it be the pump? Quite happy to have used one - where from?

    Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

    TIA.

    Andy.

    Further update.

    New pump from these folks:

Windscreen Washer Pump Front Rear Fits VW Passat (B6) 1.9 TDI Diesel (2005-2011) | eBay

Fitted fine but if you get one note that the female pipe connectors need to be squeezed very tightly to get the plastic locking clips to locate. I popped a small cable tie round to make sure.

BUT there was a split in the rear washer pipe where it goes around the coolant expansion tank. All sorted with several turns of PTFE and wrapped tightly with self amalgamating tape.

    Andy.

That's good but just be mindful that the OE pipework once it reaches the splitting stage is already compromised and is likely to split in other parts of its length. It is the type of plastic that becomes brittle with age and therefore replacing the whole length while you have the car partly dismantled would have been a more permanent solution. Be prepared for more leaks at some point in the nearer future.
