Just come back to find my tailgate gone into. Got a dent and a crack in my tailgate,. Just been told that it can't be repaired. Just checking if anyone knows of a good repairer or if it Def needs to be replaced

    Cheers

It would be very difficult and expensive in labour since it’s aluminum. You can get a used one from a scrape yard and paint it.

I think you'd be able to get it serviceable if you can get to rear of same sheet to reinforce with a strengthening layer, then fill and paint decorative side. Wouldn't really call it a repair though.

I’d go with a good used one particularly if you can get one in the same colour.
Plenty used taillights available too as lots of owners upgrade to dark tinted version.
Link below to a used door, hope it works.

My body shop won’t even try to straighten ally as it work hardens and cracks. Yes there are specialist ally repair specialists but it may never look right.

Unfortunately I had to replace two side doors with a less problematic look

It was my very expensive learning course, that the aluminium alloy is a totally non repairable thing. There was only a very minor, half a finger deep, and only a 6" wide damage, and this caused a door replacement! In a metal door, it could be repaired in just seconds, but not here. I even felt on the other door, that I can pop out the dent as there was not even a single scratch on the door - but no, it's not working.

And the pricing... so, I'm now understand why such a huge insurance fees are calculated for the Q7. A probably 2-300 GBP problem raised up to 6000 GPB. IMHO, all of these alloys should be banned on the external parts immediately.

The ally used, some of it recycled which makes it even more difficult to “work”, is what the industry calls an “enabler”, one to make the tank like proportions of these things workable, an ally free 4M would weigh as much as a Main Battle Tank and even just a steel shell would make it impossibly heavy. Another enabler is LED headlights, without them electric cars would lose a lot of range.

In that case at least it will not remind me to the SdKfz 251/20 . However, IMHO, you are right, the weight is an important thing.

But let me say, when there is a current meanstream silly idea to put hundreds of pounds of useless load - so called batteries - into a chassis - then what are we talking about? Let's see it in figures: A Q7 can have a less total weight then a Tesla Model X. By this, I don't think that we are the ones, who should have to think about the weight loss, or the heavy cars. As per your logic, a main battle car class vehicle's weight is comparable or less to the trendy "save the Earth" related class cars. Isn't it silly?

However, we can agree, as I don't think that there should be only full of steel cars on the road. Contrary. My opinion is, that the repairable items SHOUD BE repairable, as this is the best for the economy and the environment. If the main safety parts, like the internal chassis gets a damage, then these parts should be replaced, so therefore I don't care about the material. Hoever it's against my logic, that a car manufacturer uses such alloy in the external area, where it can be easily damaged, and there is no solution to repair it. IMHO it should be a must to use such material which can be repaired. If it costs more, then I will not care for it at this price range.

However it's about the Q7. If this kind of car manufacturing will be the mainstream, then a smaller, slightly older car could go for a junkyard with a minimal damage, as there will be no affordable solution to repair it. And I'm sure, if ithere will be in the future a list for the "climate crime", then this idea will be very close to the top.

For me it is the Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E Sd.Kfz. 181, aka Tiger 1, more specifically the mid production version one of which is known as Tiger 131 and resides at Bovingdon, when I go there I just sit on the bench and stare at it...

An e-tron weighs 3200 kilos... 3.2 tonnes! when it is 10 years old and the battery well out of warranty (8 years or 100k miles), a new one will cost £26206.56 (yes, twenty six thousand pounds) at today’s money PLUS installation which is a big and dangerous job, by then I would not be surprised if Audi labour was £200 an hour!

I have built a few 250 models, I was supposed to be moving and cleaning them today but cried off as they disintegrate if you even look at them
