Are you sure its been discontinued the Lidar sensor, I have been doing research and it sounded like it was only in US and on few models. Nevertheless , if my driver assistance system work without it, why I would care.
I have the self parking on my current A7, and used it once to demonstrate the wife, and thats it. doesn't bother me at all.

I have discovered in my new SQ8 that there is a plastic insert imitating Lidar instead of real Lidar. Even my Audi dealer was surprised since Audi didn't inform them about this change. After long investigation they confirmed that Lidar has been withdrawn from MY2020 models.
Lidar is much more accurate device than radar which now (as in older models) supports car assistance systems. In the past Audi was very proud of Lidar and made a lot of PR around it. Discontinuation is a technological step backwards. Such a specific "Audi Vorsprung durch Technik" .

Agreed, Audi should progress and not regress. Do you know where your SQ8 was assembled? Was it in Bratislava?

All Q8, Q7, Touareg and Cayenne are produced in Bratislava. I don't know how about Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus. It could be that the body is produced in Bratislava as well and later sent to Italy and UK for final assembly.

By the way an interesting article: Probleme bei Audi - "Rückschritt durch Technik" - Auto & Mobil - SZ.de

My Master Tech told me they were having too many problems with the new Lidar's with bugs and inaccuracy and thats why it was dropped. I can't confirm or deny that of course, but that was what I heard.
