Where did the calipers come from, new pads and discs?

Re-conned from pagid. Perhaps should have put some fluid in then to start, I had car jacked in every way possible and had callipers upside side to try to shift the air. They got progressively better over the months ahead

I have had a lot of problems when I have used recon aluminium calipers, in fact VAG see they should not be rebuilt. Unless stuck I will now only use brand new TRW units or genuine where TRW don't do them. you can tell when a caliper should not be rebuilt, if VAG do not offer an exchange unit then the old one should be discarded.

The golf is a tricky one when it comes to brake bleeding. I've replaced abs pump on Passat b5 and had no issues bleeding the system (without cycling the pump), and have rock hard brakes.
I changed my front discs, pads and flexi hoses and let the reservoir run dry in the process. After bleeding the system with pressurised bleed kit, I still couldn't get pressure on my pedal (it would be hard when engine off, but when engine turned on, would go to floor). I tried cycling the abs pump as per other threads on this forum, but still couldn't solve it. Ended up taking it to the garage. They spent an hour bleeding it with no progress. Ended up taking off the line between the master cylinder and the abs pump which then allowed them to get the air out the system (this is what they said). Brakes work fine now.
Moral of the story, don't get air into your system! I won't make that mistake again, not with a golf mk4!
