My aux belt tensioner is starting to click on cold mornings.

I have a CAGB engine, my question ‘can the tensioner be removed without putting the front end into service mode?’

It looks tight, elsawin did not say that the front end service mode was needed.

Has anyone replaced one on the same engine type? Your advice would be appreciated.

Putting the front end service mode is not a problem, just if not needed then it is effort saved.

I did the job today, a bit of pig of job.

You have to put the front end into service mode.

I then had to remove the alternator as reaching around it proved too awkward.

After that it was plain sailing. Just remember to push the alternator securing nuts out as the alternator could be tight when refitting.

I also did the over running alternator pulley whilst I was doing the job.

    Ny tensioner spring was weak.
