    Hi, newbie post...
can anyone recommend a garage in the Halifax area (uk) to do an autobox oil change? I’ve looked at how to do it but since its not a straight forward drain oil then refill process i’d Prefer to let a garage do it.
    thanks in advance.

    Anyone?
I’ll just find an Indy and see if they’re any good. Don’t worry, i will report back to help others who need local mechanic info.

Have to say though that the MB group welcomed me in and offered plenty advice when i posted on their site with questions about my E class.

Btw has anyone else had their rear wiper snap off with the weight of the snow? Happened to me this morning. I know the older Avants don’t have the best rear wipers but still. My Beemer and e class had the same snow on them this morning and they still have their wipers intact.

    All good things.

I find it to be a sparse but knowledeable grouo here, so there's reduced probability of some queries getting replies.

Has the wiper failed on the round bit that goes over the drive shaft? My VW did that not due to snow but when removing it for motor maintenance. I was a bit dusappointed...

Hi, Yes the wiper has snapped at there. Its only plastic so no real strength. I just ordered a new one online for £7.50 delivered so no biggy.

Re the original question, It was a wild shot anyway asking about a specific area but you just never know do you. There are a lot of people who view these forums (and a few looked at my post) that never comment. I think some people just like to search for answers incognito.

My usual mechanic has just had a hip replacement so he’s out of action for a while, hence my enquiry. I also need a new wheel bearing doing on the same car and I know from experience that not all Indy/small garages can do this.

    All good things.

A lot of tbe 'boxes are nominally sealed for life, so not a particularly common query. I asked my local independent about a change on our 15yo car and he asked why I'd want to do that.

Your title is also a bit opaque as it might be about engine oil change in simple reading. Adding "gearbox" or "decent independent in Halifax" might catch eye of otherwise disinterested reader.

You will need to add some details about your car inc age and mileage as there are different types of 'autobox'. For instance if it's a Quattro with Tiptronic it will be a ZF gearbox and you should look for a ZF specialist. The change procedure requires specialist equipment, is time consuming and the fluid is very expensive so the whole procedure is costly. Audi says their boxes are sealed for life but ZF say different.

    Hi C6Allroad, thanks for reply.
its a multitronic i believe on a 2.0 ti avant. 140,000miles. The trans code is JQL but I'm unable to find any info online with this code. I’ve spent hours looking at various sites to try and find which ATF to use. There are sites mentioning dozens of codes but non mention this one, which is very frustrating. I’ve had a quote from B.A. transmissions in Keighley, who are, auto trans ‘Specialists’. That said, it was a vague request for a price on an A6 auto. So they may change the price if my car is a non common one(?)
I have had the wheel bearing done and although it was noisy and on its way out, there is still a slight noise (speed related and slightly louder when pulling steering to the right) so I don’t know what to think about that. Could it be tyres? I think I’ll swap the fronts around and see what happens. Incidentally I’ve only just had the car MOT’d (2 weeks ago) and there were no problems with it.

Did G052180A2 come up as ATF for you? That seems to be the right one for a JQL box where I'm looking.

On the tyres, check you don't have directional ones if swapping on same axle. Front to back would be OK.

VAG-Abound, Thanks for the info. I didn’t get anywhere when i looked using my gearbox code. As for tyres, i’ve Assumed its the wheel bearing on the other side and booked it in at same garage. the guy said he’d check it out before just fitting a new bearing so we’ll see. Just weird that its the same noise (although slightly quieter) as before and steering direction affects it. The wheel they did was noisey when the car was on the lift and the bearing was in poor condition. anyway its going in Thursday so i’ll Find out.
