I have recently bought a '05 1.9 TDi Final Edition Avant having previously owned an '04 2.5 version. When I bought the 2.5 I had a problem with low temp reading on the dash so replaced the CTS and all was well. The location of the CTS on the 2.5 was very convenient so no drama replacing it but from what I can see the 1.9, which suffers the same low temp reading, is located at the back of the engine in an inaccasible location.
My question is: will the CTS cause problems with other engine management systems or is it just the low reading?

So can I assume a faulty CTS will not affect other systems? I shan't bother changing it if thats the case.

What I'm struggling to understand is why the coolant temp, on the dash, and the oil temp never get above about 65. They are fed by different sensors, I would imagine, but warm air circulates quite quickly even on a cold day. I'm getting about 45mpg on 50/50 town/Mway.
