    Hi guys and girls.

    I am a newbie to this forum so please go easy on me ;-). Anyway, I have Google the beejesus out of this and it has beaten me.

    Okay...I have a 2004 A3 3.2 Quattro Sport S-Line. It has been a great car for 3 years for me...until...I sat it up for a few months leading up to Christmas and when I went out to it one day, it wouldn't start...battery was flat. Ah...I hear you say...of course it's flat if it's been sat up for a couple of months...but no...it has sat for 6 months before and fired up first time. And the type of flat I am talking about is dead as a dodo...not a light or show of any form of electrical life at all. Charged the battery and car started fine and then the rainy times came and the car would start if it felt like it

    The car has had several electrical fault codes pop up on my VCDS (see below) but I do not know if they are related as, to be fair, the ones relating to the HVAC have been there for as long as I have had the car.

    Anyway, before I go off on too much of a tangent, I noticed that the fuel pump wasn't priming and I couldn't get the car to start for a few weeks but wasn't concerned as I have other vehicles so I disconnected the battery to prevent it draining. Then one day as I shut the drivers door after having another look at the situation, I heard the fuel pump prime which made me think the car would then start...which it did...as did the 2 effin rad fans as well. A bit of research into the rad fans tells me it's a common thing so I disconnected the big 80amp fuse in the engine bay in order that I when I switched the engine off, the fans wouldn't run forever.

    Next, I looked into the door locking microswitch scenario;

    3 Faults Found:
    01030 - Central Locking Key Switch; Driver Side; Lock
    008 - Implausible Signal
    00096 - Drivers Door Central Locking (Safe) Motor (V161)
    012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit
    00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Driver Side (F220)
    008 - Implausible Signal

    Now the car won't start at all so what I am wondering is does anyone know if failed microswitches in the lock will prevent the fuel pump from priming as I have heard 2 different and very valid views. After extensive research on forums here and in the States, a lot of people were saying that the fuel pump needs to have seen a signal for the door opening and it will prime the fuel pump...and then a Mechanic at a local garage tells me he has never heard of a faulty door mech preventing a vehicle from starting. Any advice is gratefully received as I am running round in circles with this and getting nowhere. Apologies for the structure of my thread...I am afraid I am not au fait with forum etiquette. Many thanks

    Not sure why you're so keen to take that view less than a day after asking a short question with a lot of words.

    I'd have to check, but doesn't VCDS have an option to test the fuel pump prime? If that works then I think ECU isn't getting the signal to tell it someone is about to try and start the car, which may come from driver door. I'd have to repeat various research you've already done to try and figure out if the specific model uses that approach.

    Do lights come on when you open door? That's often the same signal being used by CCU and ECU to trigger lights, priming, etc. If lights come on and VCDS test of priming doesn't work I'd say it is primer control electrucs ratger than door signal.

    Personally I'd replace door lock or control module to clear those errors anyway and see if it fixes priming issue.
