Hello. I have recently started to get engine warning light on my car after long drives, 30 miles or so on motorway, at 70-75mph. The fault code is cam and crank correlation. No misfires, no drop in performance, nothing. As soon as the car cools, light goes out. However it is only after 30 miles plus driving, which is only about once a month.

I can drive around town with no problem.

Could this be (fingers crossed) merely a faulty and overheating crankshaft or camshaft position sensor? or the dreaded chain?

    Mk6 Golf 1.2TSI 105.

    Thank you for advice offered.

Fault code scanned with what, a generic scanner?

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

That suggests a possible oil pressure problem due to sludge in the sump, this allows the VVT system to go out of sync but then come back when the pressure comes back. On that engine I have seen some incredibly thick sump sludge requiring paint stripper to remove it but it clings even worse to the inside of the block, head and cam chain cover. If heavy sludge is found in the sump, great care must be taken when trying to get it out of the rest of the engine as chemical treatments can release it to quickly and in large lumps which block the oil pump pick up and seize the engine. This sludge is a characteristic of highly strung turbo engines using large amounts of aluminium in their construction, cars with ally sumps are even worse, and modern daft interval oil changes.
