Hi, does anyone know what this wire is for? it's with the positive wires that connect to the battery.

Looks like an airbag plug but not sure where it goes?

That is the crash detector explosive power disconnect, this is a crash damaged salvage car then? Copart? Near side front impact?

Hi, yes it is crash damaged, it's my niece's car, so not from copart or anything.

Just trying to get it back on the road for her.

So what connects to this plug, is it just a sensor?

    Thanks

Yes that is the "battery isolation igniter N253" so the air bags must have triggered and the air bag ECU triggered the pyrotechnic charge in the N253 to disconnect the battery and someone has bodged it to get the car running, it is only A1's with the battery in the boot that have this safety feature. To replace it you fit a new earth cable, the current revised part number is 6C0 915 181 A and costs £62.86 from an Audi main dealer.

    Thanks.

Bit of a mess this car, My niece had an accident (only had 3rd party insurance) so had it sent to a "garage" for repair. They have done the bodywork but were a bit out their comfort zone with the electrics side of it, so I have volunteered to try and sort the rest of it out. I suspect they have done something with this to get it working.

The passenger dash airbag went off as well as the passenger seatbelt tensioner.

Also, I don't think it is the part number you say as that is on the negative side, whereas this plug connects to the positve side of the battery, I can't find one for the A! but I think it's something like these pictures from the web

Built 20-11-14 and a type 8XA BE4 with a CAYC engine and an MZM gearbox, in Glacier white. That part number is ETKA FI suggestion with SDC code search getting it wrong, again. The main part is the "central protection" which if it is missing is VAG part number 8X0 915 459 which is £150.96 or if it is just the "dividing element, pyrotechnic" can be replaced if the rest of the unit is OK, part number 4F0 916 519 and costs £33.86.
