Hi all, I have a basic 2019 Q7 (2967cc) and would like to explore the possibility of a remap. Does anyone have any expetience of remapping their 4M please - the newer the better. I have spoken to Andy who has had an ABT tune (runs inline) but in all honesty it is too expensive for me....

    A couple of basic questions:-

    1) If you have had it done can you reccomend anyone (Im based in Leeds)
    2) Any ideas of the gains I should see?
    3) The cost?

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dan

I had MTM M-Cantronic in my 2010 Q7. In my previous 2016 Q7, as Andy I had ABT. Both solutions are very good, both tuners are specialists in VAG cars but both are very expensive. I always do dyno test before and after tune. This what you can expect is CA + 15% in power and torque. It is not a very big gain but really noticeable and what the most important, safe for the engine and the gearbox. Now, I have SQ8 and I am also considering some tune in the future.
You can check also DTE Power Control X. It is German product as well but much more affordable, more universal since after reprogramming and changing the harness you can use it also in another car. It is also programable by the user manually or by phone application: 3 different stages of tune. Not very complicated to instal (3 channels), rather plug&play. The opinions which I have found in the net are also good.

Thanks Retom greatly appreciated... Will look into DTE. Would you dyno test before and after DTE? Do the installers do it or do you? I havent googled it yet but im presuming it can show you are within the limits of the engine / gearbox? Thanks

I have not any experience with DTE yet. I am considering DTE for my new car. ABT dyno was done by installer. The gain of power was from 282PS to 326PS and torque from 591Nm to 677Nm. Very often Audi stock engines deliver a bit more power than declared by producer. Theoretically the stock engine should have 272PS and 600Nm.
DTE you can install yourself and later do the dyno test if you need it.

Nah. If it breaks I’ll mend it. I’ve done quite a lot to it already (well - Andyhud007 has) not had any issues to date (touch wood) and don’t expect to... But if I do I’ll sort it... the best mod I’ve done is the remote start - it’s absolutely brilliant, I use it every day, it’s activated by the OEM Audi key, it was half the price of the closest Clifford option and people warned me about my warranty there but I’ve been using now for 3 months, regularly scan with VCDS and no problems... it’s a risk but in the grand scheme of things in my opinion a small one.

For info I also have the ABT inline solution. It comes with a warranty to cover any gap in Audi’s engine warranty due to its use - but only matching Audi’s warranty period i.e. 3 years. Sorry I can’t comment on any other remap, but the ABT solution is noticeable and no issues after almost one year.

Warranty is always a question mark with every tuning, coding or retrofit.
With MTM I made almost 70k km and with ABT 40k km without any problems. In both cases my Audi dealer was informed about this remap. The truth is that due to the lack of any issues with engine and gearbox they accepted this but nobody knows how they would behave in case of problems. This is always a risk.
In case of problems it is easy to remove the box within 15-30 minutes. Some people say that even such a removed box (or rather additional car computer in case of MTM and ABT) could be discovered since it leaves a marks in the car software but so far nobody has a hard data that this is true.
One more thing: if you install any engine tuning you have to forget about LL Service. Once a year or every max 15k km oil change is a must.
