Car starts fine and drives fine but if I stop at traffic lights etc it will stall, EPC and traction control symbol comes on. I need to leave it for a good minute before trying to start the car again otherwise it won’t start. It will then generally lose a lot of power and will be very jittery and generally struggle to get to 30-40mph.
ive currently got the car booked in for a lambda sensor next week but surely it wouldn’t be anything to do with that??

i had the same problem twice last summer and both times was when I wasn’t stuck in traffic.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are two completely different 1.6 petrol engines, 8 valve 102 PS or 16 valve 115 PS.

That is a good robust engine, quite often paired with automatic transmission of the old slush box variety. Has the battery been flat or disconnected recently? You should get a fault code read carried out. I would say it more cuts out then stalls and my first suspect with your restart symptoms would be the crank speed sensor G28, 06A 906 433 G

I’ve had diagnostics done and that showed up to be the lambda sensor which I’ve got booked in for next week. That was the only fault it had but between then and now this has happened.
any idea how much a crank speed sensor fitted would approx be if it is a separate issue?
    thanks for the help

They are a daft £151.42 from Audi but they are available from a vast array of different companies from £10 up, beware of going too cheap. Personally I would use a Febi 36175 which I would invoice at £30 on a workshop job.

so just had it plugged into diagnostics again and showed 2 more faults. Come to the conclusion that I’m just going to sell it as it’s a already been scrapped off as CAT N. Can’t keep throwing money at it unless anyone hasn’t any other suggestions about where to go next??

    LAMBDA SENSOR
    ENGINE SPEED SENSOR
    CAM SHAFT SENSOR
    All faults are periodic
Possible Cam bus error / ECU

As I said, crank speed sensor G28, easy to chnage and about £30, scrapping an EU5 emissions (ULEZ compliant) petrol car because of those faults feels a little harsh...
