    Hi guys,

I’m after a little bit of help. I recently hit a kerb and have been left with a wurring noise and matching vibration when I hit 75-80mph. The car went into the garage and they noticed I’d buckled my wheel. That’s since been changed but the noise and vibration is still there. Audi have done a fair bit of investigating and ruled out the bearings, gearbox and diff. They attached noise monitoring equipment which picked up nothing anywhere on the car. They swapped all wheels around and even used a set off of an identical car. They said there’s no effective way to check the drive shaft with the wheels rotating but said that it can’t be that. I don’t understand how they could say that considering I hit a kerb but I’m no expert. They’ve recommended I “live with the issue” but I just can’t. It’s one of those that no one else can hear or feel except me.

Does anyone have any similar issues that they resolved? I’m drawn towards the drive shaft being the issue and that it’s potentially warped from the impact but ultimately I’m not sure. I did hit it fairly hard swerving a fellow road user to put it politely.

    For info it’s a 2014 A7 3ltr Quattro, should that be required.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Difficult one. Whiring noises suggest the wheel bearing is at fault. The higher the speed the noisier it gets.

I can’t hear or feel it after 85 due to the road noise with the big tyres. Makes it a bit difficult. My only option might be to stick a new bearing on and work from there.

What happens when you turn a corner at 50 or 60? Does the noise change pitch depending upon the direction you turn?

How much tread on your tyres? They can make a louder noise when they start wearing down.

Get your wheel alignment checked. You might have knocked it out when you hit the kerb.

A8Cruiser: No no noise difference in cornering and handling perfectly. Tread is fine too.

Scott K: Audi checked all of this for me. I made a point of it but from my recent dealings over the last year of various bits and bobs I can’t trust them as far as I can throw them.

I think best bet is to chuck it into a German specialist there is near me and get their opinion.

Those front wheel bearings are getting a common issue and they can be evil to get out, they are steel in an ally carrier and rust in solid. A pair we did a few weeks ago took hours of penetrant soaking, 4lb lump hammer abuse with a special bolt on striking arm (on the table in the lower picture) an air chisel from behind and pumping in huge amounts of heat with our inductive heater, direct flame is useless on aluminium as it just sucks it up and laughs at you... until all of a sudden it turns into a molten blob. To make things worse you can’t just take the carrier off and work on the bench as you have to get the top bolt out which is worse than the bearing as the top area can crack

Agree with Crasher. I was lucky that my bearing went at only 80,000 miles, so was able to get the top bolt our and remove the carrier us use a bench press. I used heat and a lot of hammering to get the top bolt out. Lesson learnt. I then decided to remove the top bolt from the other side and both bolts from my Q5 also. Lots of aluminium Greece packed in for the next occasion. Regarding the bearing I used a bench press. I guess the other sid will ba problem now that I have done nearly 140k miles.

    Hello hello!
Hope all your Audis are well and you are having an awesome week.
I am in need of your help regarding 2 small things like:

    1. Rattle-buzzing noise from the mid front speaker. I removed the plastic cover and surprise..the speaker is in good shape. The noise is the same even with the cover removed.

    2. I hate when I wash the windshield with the washer fluid and everything is ok but then the 4th wipe comes in action...it leaves some unwanted smudges on it. How can I remove it from VDS? I can’t seem to find it on youtube.
