As above..!! Hi guys - and gals.. just joined up to hopefully get a few pointers with my current problem!
The first start of the day is a drawn out affair.. crank for 5 secs then turn off.. ignition back on- glow plug light goes out crank again for 5 seconds or so.. some times it’ll start more often it’ll take another try then stumble into life then settle and tick over fine. Once started it runs like a dream. Power as long as yr foots on the pedal.. quick pick up and no lumps, misses, smoke (except hard change downs -auto ) runs lovely... turn it off and leave for few hours mostly it’ll start on and off all day.. it’s not my everyday car now so I t gets left for a few days then it’ll flatten battery and need a jump. Plus a bit of easy start if left for a week or two.. big new battery.. injectors checked all ok.. fuel flowing thro clear tube no bubbles BUT there is a bit of a “ buzz “ from top of (new ) fuel filter and t piece... if you move it fractionally when cars running the noise changes.. still no bubbles tho.. My friends fitted an aux elec pump to help prime fueling but not much better than before.. thinking the main pump was perhaps on its way out but car literally runs fine once started... Only other thing is the heater not pumping hot air out.. it’s warm but if turned up high seems luke warm at best.. not losing any coolant, engine runs at fraction over 90 degs constant wether moving or stationary.. oil temp constant too unless horsing it... hopefully looking for the cheapest fix first approach.. it’s had suspension bags compressor wheel bearings replacement new cam kit etc etc. Can’t face another whopper bill..!! Any thoughts greatly appreciated..!!

Make sure that the timing is correct..... Not for one tooth more or less on the timing belt.....

You can check before the timing the high pressure pump baybe it has not enough pressure when you crank the car, then the injectors not work properly and car starts poorly... There where you test the injectors you may check the pressure pump... Not the fuel tank ones but the main on the engine

Looks like I’ll need a locking tool kit for that job.! Never straight forward is it..!! Not sure how timing could of gone out tho.. it all started couple years back when I ran the car low on diesel then parked at a wonky angle on my drive... it wouldn’t start so I assumed too low fuel level so put £20 in rocked it about tried to start it up.. nothing.. flattened battery eventually.. dragged it to local supermarket with my jeep stuck another £20 in and still no good... got the aa to come out.. air in the system he said. Could see bubbles in clear fuel pipe to pump .. so more cranking and bleeding plus jump and he got it running eventually.. then from that day had this starting issue.. but like I said before once running it seems fine. Changed fuel filter and t piece and a couple of the small fuel hoses plus new clamps etc.. cams were changed after that event but never started properly again... oh and there’s quite a bit of smoke on the first start of the day. None on later starts tho..

Yeah the ones at tank are ok apparantely.. it’s the up front expensive one that’s bothering me..! It’s been relegated to third car now but it’s such a great piece of kit it’s a shame it’s not right..! I love it but can’t justify any more big investment in it. It’s only worth buttons now.!! Shame ..! Thanks for your advice. Appreciate it

That could be the problem.....diesel high fuel pressure pump killer is low fuel level..... Or empty fuel tank..... Maybe before you touch the timing and check it, start with the fuel pump.... It maybe has not enough pressure on crank speed while you start the engine and on idle eventuality the rpm are more then on crank that's why it works fine after you get it started after meny tries.......
